Plan wiring and equipment locations as part of the house.

Ask for a network plan with wired access points, service pathways and a coverage check after construction. Coordinate sleeves and penetrations before the concrete pour.

Coordinate efficient heating and cooling with ventilation and humidity control.

Request an equipment load calculation, a ventilation design and compatible controls. Sensors inform operation; they do not replace ventilation.

Water protection

Detect leaks and abnormal water use sooner.

Evaluate leak sensors, flow monitoring and an automatic shutoff suited to the plumbing. Include access, testing and a manual override.

Energy you can see

Use equipment and energy data to understand how the home performs.

Consider compatible thermostat controls and energy monitoring. Ask for installed costs and modeled savings without adding overlapping ICF and equipment savings twice.

Power & future readiness

Plan space and infrastructure for EV charging, solar and backup power.

Have the electrical team assess service capacity, load management, critical circuits, conduit and equipment locations. Size storage against actual loads and desired backup time.

Simple, accessible control

Make lighting, shading and entry easier to use day to day.

Specify physical controls, accessible operation and clear owner permissions. Review offline operation, update support, subscriptions and privacy before selecting products.

Compatibility that survives handover.

Matter 1.6, released June 17, 2026, adds capabilities for setup, shared device management and thermostat coordination. Availability varies by product and platform. Ask an integrator to verify the exact device features, controllers and support life before specifying them. Read the Connectivity Standards Alliance release.

Before the pour

Coordinate openings, conduits and equipment paths with the ICF and engineering team. Build future access into the plans.

Before purchase

Confirm compatibility, installed cost, subscriptions, update support and manual operation. Technology savings require a project-specific estimate.

Before handover

Test controls, alerts and agreed outage behavior. Transfer owner accounts, remove temporary installer access and deliver labeled plans and operating instructions.
